The KwaZulu-Natal Society of Mediators respects your privacy and is committed to protecting the personal information you share with us.
Information we collect
We collect personal information that you provide to us directly — for example when you apply for membership, submit a complaint, subscribe to our newsletter, register for an event, or send us an enquiry. This may include your name, contact details, professional qualifications, training records and any documents you choose to submit in support of an application or complaint.
How we use your information
- to process and assess membership applications and accreditation;
- to publish the details of members who have consented to appear on our public panel of mediators;
- to investigate and administer complaints under our Complaints Policy;
- to invite you to events, webinars and the Society's annual general meeting;
- to send newsletters and updates where you have subscribed; and
- for the general administration and record-keeping of the Society.
Sharing your information
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only where necessary to fulfil the purpose for which it was collected — for example with Executive Committee members, appointed investigators, our administrator, or accreditation bodies such as NABFAM — or where we are required to do so by South African law.
Storage and security
Information is stored electronically and access is restricted to those who need it for the purposes described above. Records of complaints, including the investigation and outcome, are retained for no less than three years or for the duration of the relevant member's membership, whichever is longer.
