About Us
Formation of the Society
The KZN Society of Mediators grew out of a simple need: a professional home for mediators practising in KwaZulu-Natal.
Before 2019
Informal beginnings
Mediators practising across KwaZulu-Natal met informally to share experience, refer work and discuss the growth of mediation in the province. It became clear that KZN needed a formal umbrella body of its own.
2019
First AGM
The Society was officially established at its first Annual General Meeting, adopting a Constitution and a Code of Professional Conduct, and electing its first Executive Committee.
Since 2019
Accreditation and standards
The Society set minimum requirements for Mediator membership, created an Associate category for those still building experience, and put a formal complaints procedure in place.
National role
ADRPSA and NABFAM
The Society became one of the founding member organisations of the Association of Dispute Resolution Practitioners of South Africa, and a member organisation of NABFAM, with three members serving on the NABFAM Board.
Today
A growing panel
The Society hosts an annual conference, regular webinars and CPD activities, and maintains a public panel of mediators covering family, commercial, labour, community and many other practice areas.
