CPD Points
The Society recognises the need for mediators to maintain their skills, knowledge and experience through Continued Professional Development.
Continued Professional Development (CPD) is a nationally and internationally recognised process applied across a broad range of professions, for tracking and documenting the enhancement of personal skills and proficiency. The dispute resolution field is no exception.
The KZN Society of Mediators' standard for continued accreditation of members is a minimum of 15 CPD points over a 12-month period. These points need to be obtained by each accredited mediator member from 1 September – 31 August in order to retain their accreditation with the Society into the next year. A mediator member who fails to obtain the minimum CPD points in 12 months will be required to re-accredit with the Society.
This requirement applies to all fields of mediation. The Society's intention is to encourage members to remain current with ongoing developments in mediation, to improve their mediation competencies, and to share their knowledge and experiences through regular engagement with the mediation community — thereby contributing to the advancement of mediation practice in South Africa.

How to record and submit your points

Keep a record of the CPD points obtained for the year 1 September – 31 August: note the title of the event attended, the date and the duration of the event.

Ensure you have proof of having attended the event. This excludes events, conferences or meetings run by the Society, for which we will have a record of attendees.

When you have obtained your 15 points, complete the CPD Points Submission form.

Please only submit proof of your CPD points once you have obtained all 15 points.
The onus is on you, as an accredited mediator, to provide evidence of the CPD points you have obtained during the preceding 12 months of the Society's financial year. This can be in the form of certificates received, a screenshot showing your attendance, or an official list or email detailing conference attendees. Submissions are due by 31 August each year.
